2026

EN - In 2019, I moved into my current home. I had just become a mother to my son, and a few months later, the pandemic hit. By normal standards, the house was uninhabitable; we were right in the middle of a renovation. My mother-in-law, the previous resident, had painted all the doors in pastel shades with great care and attention. Think mint green with blue, gold edges, salmon, and soft yellow. My sole purpose was to repaint these doors in a neutral white as quickly as possible. For weeks, I lost myself in the painting process, and even now, I still haven't whitened them all. How can the simple sight of a door cause so much hatred?

Just like during the renovation, I placed one of the nine doors onto sawhorses in my bedroom once again, capturing every single inch through charcoal frottage. This black door marks the closure of an unfinished struggle. My act of autonomy: capturing the resistance, embracing the texture, and finding peace within my home.
